Hastings locals love a party. Nothing better to brighten up a grey February. Hastings has been holding their homage to Mardi Gras for I think 15 years. Hastings celebration is called “Fat Tuesday”, gasp, can we still say that,,, yes we can because its the literal translation of Mardi Gras which has not been cancelled yet ;o)
Fat Tuesday a 5 day event. Starting with a masked ball, unplugged Saturday and includes a full carnival. Revellers embrace the occasion getting into the spirit and most likely drinking it too. The music is good as well as the costumes. The format is along the lines of 50+ music acts moving around the town playing sets. Each act moves in, plays 20 min set, moves on. Next in. The list of venues is shown on the Fat Tuesday website. On Sunday it is a full Parade, so if first time or with family you may find this a good day to first experience Hasting’s Fat Tuesday.
